Finding the Programs Right for Your Site

Finding sites who sell products related to your site content is probably the best affiliate choice. This will not only increase the chances of having the partnership accepted, but the number of people you send to the associated site (and thus your revenue) will increase.

If you know of a specific site that you personally use in association with your own, or if you're already linking to sites, check to see if they have an affiliate program. For example, if you have a site about movies of the 1920s, you might consider starting up pay-per-sale affiliate programs with Amazon.com which sells videos and MovieGoods.com, which sells posters, photos and other movie merchandise.

As for the pay-per-click programs, rather than look for individual sites, programs such as Google AdSense combine all the pay-per-click sites in their database and searches your page content to only send relevant adds.

Once you join a program, the partner site will help you set up links and provide banners and images for you to place on your site. Once the links are in place, you only need get traffic to your own site to begin earning money.
