Take Control of Thanksgiving Dinnner

TidBITS, the Mac newsletter and website, has been publishing e-books on a number of topics, mostly dealing with Macs. A new title this year is Take Control of Thanksgiving Dinner, written by Joe Kissell. Bought it this year and used it yesterday.

Overall, it worked out pretty well. We made everything but the pumpkin pie (my wife has her own recipe), and we bought a frozen/basted turkey (instead of brining). Summary of the various recipes:
  • Turkey. Done earlier than expected, but was very good.
  • Mashed potatoes. Turned out great.
  • Gravy. Turned out great.
  • Sweet potatoes. Overcooked the potatoes initially and put into too large a casserole, but turned out pretty good.
  • Stuffing. Made way too much, but turned out pretty good.
  • Cranberry relish. Had too much orange compared to cranberry, but tasted fine.
Joe has you doing most of the work the day before Thanksgiving, which sure made things simpler yesterday.

Overall, worked out well, and will probably use this for Christmas as well.
